Jostein Hallén is a professor of exercise physiology at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. He was instrumental in establishing and served as the first head of the Institute of Physical Performance at the University. His research focuses on cardiovascular limitations to oxygen transport and the effects of age, sex, and training. Hallén is particularly focused on growth, maturation, and exercise training in children, the cardiovascular response to endurance training, and how various physiological factors influence athletic performance at all levels. He is especially interested in integrative approaches in exercise physiology as a powerful tool to synthesize and understand data from reductionist approaches.
