
Ieva Birka
Dr. Ieva Birka is the lead researcher on diplomacy and political science at the Advanced Social and Political Research Institute (ASPRI) of the University of Latvia. She received her PhD in political science from the University of Latvia and subsequently held postdoctoral fellowships at Yale University and the University of Lucerne. She has published in academic journals including Space and Polity, The Hague Journal of Diplomacy, the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, the Journal of Baltic Studies, and Diaspora Studies. Currently she is working on a research venture titled “Urban Preparedness for Emerging Risks in the Baltic Sea Region” financed by the European Union Recovery and Resilience Facility project "Internal and External Consolidation of the University of Latvia" (No.5.2.1.1.i.0/2/24/I/CFLA/007). In addition to being a dedicated scholar, Dr. Birka directs the Future Leaders Academy at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga) and mentors upcoming young leaders, underscoring her enduring commitment to education and political discourse.
